Most Wednesdays and Fridays, our Chief Naturalist and Wildlife Artist-in-Residence, Lydia Thompson, will be on hand to answer your birding questions and autograph her new identification cards and original etchings.
WEDNESDAY AND FRIDAY MORNING AMBLES - Call 912-635-3933 to speak with Lydia about arranging a new, shorter birding tour she will be offering this year - A One-Hour Amble. These bird walks will begin at Wild Birds Unlimited and provide a glimpse into one of Jekyll Island's many natural areas. The fee is $15 per person.
THURSDAY MORNING BIRD RAMBLES - Lydia also conducts her group tours each Thursday at 8:00 a.m. Meet in the parking lot of the Jekyll Island Shopping Center on Beachview Drive (by the pharmacy). Seats are limited, so make your reservations at artworksbylydia@bellsouth.net or 912-634-1322.

Lydia also serves as the Birding Field Trip organizer for the Coastal Georgia Audubon Society (GCAS). GCAS offers interesting field trips for all levels of "birders." November 14 (Saturday) Field Trip to Altamaha Wildlife Management Area. Meet at 7:30 a.m. at the public landing parking lot on the right of US 17 north of the bridge over the S. Altamaha River. Follow the yellow sign to the parking lot. We will carpool from there. Expect a fair amount of walking. Bring binoculars, scopes, water and insect repellant. Contact mikelchap@bellsouth.net.
November 17 (Tuesday) Membership Meeting at 7:00 p.m. at the Department of Natural Resources Building off US 17 on the north side of the Lanier Bridge. Guest speaker will discuss docent program help in protecting nesting birds. Light refreshments will be served.
November 21 (Saturday) Field Trip to Towns Bluff Park. Meet at 7:30 a.m. to carpool from Winn Dixie just west of Exit 36 on Highway 341. This park is part of Bullard Creek Wildlife Management Area. Two miles of hiking trails are in the park. Contact artworksbylydia@bellsouth.net.
November 28 (Saturday) Jekyll Island Tree Lighting. Volunteers needed from 4 - 7:30 p.m. to help children make bird feeders using pine cones, peanut butter and bird seed. Contact artworksbylydia@bellsouth.net.
